Ikea love

Posted in Blog journal by karmatosed on December 31, 2005

Ignoring the fact that these holidays are meant to be for relaxing, we have just competely sorted the entire house it with a little help from Ikea. Not that bad prices either much helped by the new opening store in Milton Keynes which we were there for the opening day. All rather hectic and everything but it always feels nice to clear out junk and get things sorted. We seem to have some kind of Christmas holiday clearing tradition going on considering this is the third year running we have done this. Guess it’s cos it is really the only time we ever have off together and that I can actuallly not do work without having to drop of face of planet – it’s a time when people expect you not to do work so I can take a break and sort everything out. Keeping with this tradition now my offline world is sorted I have a few days to whack my online world into line with regards to my blogs and portfolio site. A girls work is never done!

argh and argh again

Posted in Blog journal by karmatosed on November 28, 2005

Today was possibly one of the most pointless days I have had in my life at pants (the loving reference to my work place)….

As a result of there being no net line my entire company become dumb hitters of the outlook send and recieve button.  This odd behaviour was proved to be not helpful at all when we were diagnosed with a connection but a slow and sporadic one, hence if you had to get information having idiots bashing send and receive only made it impossible.  Strangest thing was bar me none of them were highly impacted.  They couldn’t get stuff in yes, but not one of them got the fact that considering i work ONLINE my whole day was up the toilet.  Nice of someone to notice and stop harrassing me and offer to help me.  Not one person even recognised in their narrow world that I was actually the single person messed up the most by this and that I couldn’t even offer our clients support for hosting – a rather essential thing.

Yes, one person got it but only after me finally ranting at them about this.

Sometimes I just wish someone would bother to not shout about the net not working and see it as a chance to make my life hell.  Just once recognise that I don’t just sit there painting my nails staring blankly at a screen – I rely on the net to work and by giving me hell you are far from helping.

Funny how just losing a net connection makes even the nicest person self and ignorant to any other person.  I do realise people don’t even get what I do – the problem being the sole webby now my only saving grace has left the department.  I feel like I need to run some kind of save the webby charity.

Well I was going to go

Posted in Blog journal by karmatosed on November 28, 2005

Ok, I had decided to purely focus on my blog at diary of a website – but, I have decided to hang out a bit more here.  I will say the majority of my stuff will be there as it is become a daily obsession.  I think that having this just as a bit of a personal rant is a nice thing though and I don’t want to stop it.  Sometimes, dow is becoming so directed on my life online I am thinking I don’t have anything else going on.  If nothing else this should serve as a reminder I have a life aswell.

if all else fails drink hot chocolate

Posted in Blog journal by karmatosed on November 20, 2005

I still have never come across anything of the minor crisis nature that wasn’t subdued a bit by a mug of good hot chocolate. I am not talking about overly expensive either, personally one of my favourites is a cheap mint flavoured one. Hot chocolate is partially a product of the making, the moment and content. I think that it is my own version of chicken soup and works in the same way. The addition of marshmellows to the mix can also bring a candy floss brain soothing sensation.

powergen savings account

Posted in Blog journal by karmatosed on November 14, 2005

We appear to have opened a powergen savings account without actually agreeing to one.  When we first moved into our current property we were hit by the nice sum of having to pay over £90 a month.  As a result I was begged to wander if we were infact either supplying the whole street or my husband was running some secret lab under our house.  Over the next year this figure wiggled down through various calls and bashing my head on call centres, to around £50.  I thought that possibly was fair enough.  However, we seem to through my slight reputation as a “heating hitler” (my husband’s words) be never using close to this amount.  Rather odd considering I am attempting to run a nasa style computer network.  I am not one to complain though as every few months we now get a nice amount in credit which we can transfer back to our rather ill at times bank account.  So the tip for the day is forget banks – use powergen.  Yes, kids the new hip saving account is your power company.  Thanks to the recent installment we can now afford to give more than pasta glue pictures for christmas.

cold muffins

Posted in Blog journal by karmatosed on November 13, 2005

I have a recipe to suggest for people.  This as anyone who actually knows me is a rather bold statement.  I have so far in my history of cooking disasters both burnt water and poisoned my husband through a vegetarian burger-mix pie (this was the pre-lamb and bacon taste discovery phase that turned me from a vegetarian).  However, I will attempt to be rather bold and offer a recipe up.  I don’t know if you can actually even label it a recipe – it is more of a technique I guess.

Basically if you haven’t had the pleasure of the Sainsbury’s chocolate chip muffins I would suggest trying the following cheer up.  Place packet of them in the fridge.  See that is an easy recipe.  Just whack them in and enjoy when you want.  Go on, live a little … have a cold muffin.

cold shower

Posted in Blog journal by karmatosed on November 13, 2005

No, I have not been looking at dodgy images of flickr…. basically I seem to be perpetually living in houses with cold bathrooms and as such any warm shower rapidly turns into a sub-zero shivering fest.  I have forgotten what it was actually like to have a warm bathroom.  I am momentarily offered an insight into the world of lingering drying sessions and where second dashes aren’t needed to another room upon leaving the shower; but these only make it worse.

I am not sure if it is some kind of penance for something or just I have a knack for picking really cold bathroom houses.  It is simply a fact that every bathroom I have lived in (not that I live much in the bathroom that is as cold as these are – I have doubt even mould could grow in some) is freezing.  Currently we are waiting for our bathroom (it’s one of those would have been out back but they whacked some walls and put a roof on it to pass it as part of the house) has a few major problems and is getting redone.  I can hope for a warm haven but I am unconvinced considering our radiator is the size of a postage stamp.

So another admitting moment from me – I stare at the bathroom haven adverts of warmth on tv, I dream of not having icicles form if you don’t move faster than the speed of sound to dry, of not having to dash out and leaves ice puddles behind…..

the power of loose tongues

Posted in Blog journal by karmatosed on November 9, 2005

I had a rather pointed reminder to the power of gossip at work today. I can’t see any good coming from it and time and time again see those participating in it burnt with the fire of further gossip. It’s like their is some automatic karma of badness that passes onto the speaker of gossip. As a result I myself can’t resolve never to gossip again – I think it is probably (unfortunately) a part of human nature to have a good gas. I can though resolve which vents I will use – opting to not go with the leaky gas vents with big mouths and to stick to the vents that never let me down. Along with this pulling out of the water cooler gossip festivals that take place everyday around the world in every office, staff room and place of work. The motto for today is just say no and go and talk to someone who doesn’t squeal like a pig without being poked.

stationery addiction

Posted in Blog journal by karmatosed on November 8, 2005

It comes the time now to get serious and talk about one of my major addictions … for want of having an aa group to go to I will use this blog to state I am a stationery addict.  In this I do not mean that I go around snorting post-it notes or jacking up on paper clips….  My addiction seems to manifest mainly in lots and lots of notebooks with ‘stuff’ in and a range of other sundary supplies.  I seriously think that if we never found a stationers for a year we’d be quite fine thank you very much.  I seem to have made this worse by lately buying something from staples and have what to a stationery addict is a kin to pornography turn up on my doorstep…  Yes I now have the staples catalogue!  Pages and pages of pointless ways to attach random documents to my desktop.  Pages of glorious glow fest highlighters …. I can’t handle it I’m off to have a browse …….
